Born and raised in Idaho, I was part of a family of blue dots in a very red state. I moved to Portland after graduating from college.
I started teaching a few years later, where I met my now ex-husband. We had two amazing kids, and despite our marriage ending, I'm grateful for our time together.
I currently live with my kids and the best dog a woman could ask for. I'm in a happy, heathy relationship.

I never imagined I would be a writer. I didn't think I was creative or dedicated enough.

In 2020, like many people locked inside, I struggled with depression, anxiety, and severe migraines. When we went back to school in 2021, the migraines got worse, but it was also when I realized that my daydreaming and hypothetical conversations could actually be a story.
I started working with two amazing writing partners who helped me realize I had a lot to learn. Thanks to them, my writing developed (a lot), and I scrapped the first book (it's in its 10th or so rewrite) and wrote Never Not Yours.
After about a year, I got a literary agent at SBR Media. Unfortunately, after hearing from several editors that my writing was promising, but they were cautious of taking on new authors, my agent and I parted ways, and I decided to publish it on my own.

My writing, like everything else in my life, is heavily impacted by ADHD. When I started writing, I didn't know about story structure or conventions (hence the first book needing several rewrites), but I would write for hours at a time, staying up until hours no one should stay up to, if they have to teach high-schoolers the next morning.
I eventually started teaching part time to dedicate more time to writing, but my style didn't change much. When it rains, it pours for several weeks, then I go for a while without typing a word.
After meeting my partner and developing our relationship, I don't spend nearly as much time in my head, fantasizing about what love should be. The things I've written lately have been much spicier!
I'm more comfortable planning my stories out more than I used to, but I'm still a bit like a Rhoomba--going on a clear path until I hit a wall, turning around, and trying a different direction.
Most of my main characters have dogs. Often, those dogs are pit bull mixes. I grew up with black labs, and I love them. But I've had two pit bull mixes, and they are the sweetest, cuddliest dogs I've ever met. This pit bull and boxer mix keeps me company when I'm home writing.
When I first started writing, my kids couldn't have understood why I was spending so much time on the computer, but they cheered me on nonetheless.
I've been lucky enough to have parents who never questioned my writing and have always cheered me on. My sister, brother-in-law, aunts, uncles, and cousins have been nothing but supportive.
I met my partner after he responded to a request on Twitter for feedback on my first few chapters. After I won the Stiletto Contest, I wrote him a follow-up email thanking him again for the feedback and sending him my manuscript. A few months later, after he binge-read it over a weekend, he wrote me the most beautiful review I could have imagined. Our friendship developed quickly as we discovered how much we had in common.
Now, I can't imagine my life with anyone else.
